Between recording a new LP, putting out a book (written by Pitchfork scribe Stuart Berman), and reuniting with Feist at a small gig last month, Broken Social Scene are a busy collective nowadays. With everything aligning once again, it seemed like their free gig on Saturday at Toronto's Harbourfront Centre was destined to be special.
And, as many YouTube videos can attest, it was. Featuring the rarely-seen-together triple threat of Feist, Metric's Emily Haines, and Stars' Amy Millan-- along with Kevin Drew, Brendan Canning, Andrew Whiteman, Justin Peroff, and (let's just say) more-- this looks like one for the history books. Too awesome. (Videos below.)
In other BSS news, there's a new film featuring the group in the works called This Movie is Broken, according to Twitch Film. Rather than a straight concert movie, it's a narrative work of fiction involving a couple trying to snag backstage passes to a BSS gig. The filmmakers are currently looking for fan footage of lovely Toronto to plug into the movie-- more info on that here.
